Video Spotlight: Apple’s iPad Oscar Ad Continues to “Think Different”.
February 28, 2015 Becca Flynn

In this video spotlight Apple is continuing to “think different” with the iPad Oscar ad that aired during the 2015 Oscar awards, fostering inspiration and passion for the arts.

While we will continue to shoot on our 4K Blackmagic Production Camera, it is inspiring to see the creativity shown through Apple’s Oscar ad for iPad. This ad really emphasizes Apple’s branded slogan to “Think Different” as it showcases the inspiring opportunities in taking ‘that first step” to follow your passions. The ad targets future artists and filmmakers by filming students from Los Angeles County High School of the Arts as they create their own short films shot with an iPad. Not only does Apple tell a story with a global and cultural element, American influential filmmaker Martin Scorsese narrates the ad  with creative, motivational, and passionate words from a 2014 speech to graduates at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts (abc News).
He says:

“You can’t do your work according to the people’s values. I’m not talking about ‘following your dream,’ either. I never like the inspirational value of that phrase. Dreaming is a way of trivializing the process, the obsession that carries you through the failure as well as the successes which could be harder to get through.

If you’re dreaming, you’re sleeping. It’s important and imperative to always be awake to your feelings, your possibilities, your ambitions. But you also know this, for your work, for your passions, every day is a re-dedication.

Painters, dancers, writers, filmmakers, it’s the same for all of you, all of us. Every step is a first step, every brush stroke is a test, every scene is a lesson, every shot is a school. So, let the learning continue.”

Scorsese can be best known for films such as The Wolf of Wall Street and The Departed.
