Creativity In Video Production

Creativity In Video Production
August 12, 2014 Becca Flynn

Creativity in video production takes courage, mistakes, imagination, intelligence, fun, contrast.. and much more. At Pixel Labs, we believe that creativity is a driving source for success in video production. In 2013, Ashton Kutcher inspired teens at the Teen Choice Awards with some memorable words to live by. While searching for ways to explore creativity, this speech seems almost parallel to creative success. Kutcher, who we all know as the famous Hollywood actor, helped us reevaluate our creative process. Check out the video here and let’s see how his inspirational advice can help boost your creative potential!

1. The first point is about opportunity.

“Opportunity looks a lot like hard work.”

Approach the task with an open mind and don’t be afraid to learn from both your success and your mistakes. Take chances. You can boost creativity by analyzing the scope of your project and its restrictions. In terms of video production, consider your video length, time management,  and required elements to be placed in the video. Using these internal restrictions can help trigger unique ideas. Another aspect of opportunity is creating a portfolio. You can create work to show potential clients and employers that open the door for new opportunities.

2. The second point is about being sexy.

“The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart..Being thoughtful, and being generous. Everything else is crap.”

Understand the audience and product/service you are creating the video for. Do research to become smart and thoughtful in order to produce the best outcome for your video. In other words, learn about the brand, features, and benefits of the product service to help in idea generation for a marketing video. The audience is also important in the idea generation for video because they are the viewers who you actually want to market to. You need to speak to the audience in such a way that you grab their attention, identify what their “market pain” might be, then solve the problem.

3. The last point is about how you live life.

“Everything around us that we call life was made up of people that are no smarter than you…You can build your own life. Don’t live one, build one.”

Putting our heads together and building our own creativity helps open up for unique ideas. As quoted by Steve Jobs “when you grow up you tend to get told that the world is just the way it is”. Creativity can change this. In fact, it takes breaking away from the patterns and status quo in life to see things differently. Collaborate and create your own world of ideas and imaginations. Collaboration is so important that it fosters success, and success is built on creativity and creating something different. In producing video, look for ways to share ideas that are unintimidating and supportive. Learn more in our  blog post on collaboration.
